Isa Trip Croydon Dam Kapok Tree Pod (Open to full size - it is lovely)
Cochlospermum gillivraei
These native kapok trees were growing in the vicinity of the Croydon dam
and were just beginning to open up their seed pods when we were there. They
looked spectacular hanging from the trees. In this one you can see it just
beginning to open at the base. They are rich colours. Temperature was about
42 C (shade temperature) and everything was crisp. Kapok is like a native,
wild cotton. Each seed is surrounded by a white fluffy cotton type stuff
that floats away. What was amazing was when I saw this photo on the
computer when downloaded. I just did not see the rich colours and patterns
till it was amplified by the zoom or macro. Then I saw the real detail of
these lovely pods. I love this photo and want to return in spite of the
heat and distance.
