A huge 116mm adult male of the heaviest insect in the world.

This species holds the world record for being the heaviest insect species,
with the largest recorded in captivity being 228grams! ⚖️
.
Specimens from this Western locality (Peru) up till now were incorrectly
identified as Megasoma actaeon which is a species native to Eastern areas
in South America. After taxonomic work by Prandi last year, this species
was newly described given a valid name as Megasoma rex.
